What has Councilmember JON OLESON done for NE Bloomington??
Since being elected 4 years ago
Pilot CURBSIDE LOAN PROGRAM – Jon began promoting the idea 3 years ago!
Up to $10,000 great-terms loans for see-from-the-street home improvements!
Pilot rectangle: E of Portland, N of 90th, W of Old Cedar, S of American Blvd – District 4!
Where did the $$ come from? Bloomington Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA) put money into a fund; the fund gets paid back when homeowners sell the home.
Program’s 2-year trial is so successful that HRA hopes to expand to other areas!
The number of AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS is increasing! - Jon in action!
Jon participates in Legislature lobbying and cultivates good working relationships to promote more units—with housing developers, realtors and non-profit organizations like VEAP, Common Bond, and the recently formed Bloomington Housing Coalition.
Actions show results: 400 NE Bloomington rental units recently purchased by non-profit Aeon, affordable housing planned in South Loop and proposed development at Penn-American, Habitat for Humanity built two homes in our district in past 12 months!
Might Bloomington build a COMMUNITY CENTER?
Residents have been asking “Why don’t we have a more comprehensive social, fitness and meeting center?”
A hard-working resident Task Force (Jon included!) researched, talked out a lot of issues and made a report to City Council. City Council recently negotiated a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with the YMCA. Jon was appointed 9/25 to be one of three to represent the City in meetings with "The Y" board representatives to draft details of what a Community Center partnership could become. Reports will be presented to the full City Council and YMCA for more discussion (and public hearings!) before a decision is made.
Will a Community Center happen? If so, might it be in NE Bloomington? Jon is positioned to work for what you want!
A more UPBEAT FEEL to “We live in NE Bloomington!!”
Houses now sell at more money per square foot than in other parts of the City!
Young families are moving in and strolling through and enjoying our neighborhoods!
Neighborhood block parties generally had larger turnouts this year!
